How we research

Lanka Lens has no presenter and no famous name. What we ask you to trust is the work. So we show it: every guide lists the sources it was checked against, at the end of the page.

One fact register for every guide

Before a guide is written, we list every claim it will make: a date, a price, a rule, a distance, a season. Each claim goes into a fact register, a file that records what we checked, where, and what we found. Each claim gets one of three results:

  • Confirmed: the source says what we planned to say.
  • Corrected: the source says something different, so we changed the sentence.
  • Cut: we could not find a reliable source, so the claim is not published.

A claim that cannot be checked is cut, not softened.

Official and primary sources first

We go to the source that decides the fact: the government department, the park authority, the railway, the central bank, the temple, the UNESCO listing, the scientific paper. Reputable newspapers and guidebooks are used when no primary source is available, and we say so. Encyclopaedias, blogs and forums help us find a source. We do not cite them as the source itself.

In each guide's source list, official and primary sources come first. Links to sites that are not official are marked so that search engines do not count them as our recommendation.

Dates on everything that changes

Prices, fees, timetables, opening hours and visa rules change, sometimes quickly. Every one of them carries the date we checked it, for example "checked October 2026", and is never presented as permanent. Sri Lanka's prices moved sharply after 2022, so an old figure is often a wrong one. Before you rely on a price or a rule, check the official source we link to.

No commission, no affiliate links

We sell guides, not tours. We take no commission from any hotel, driver or tour operator, and our pages contain no affiliate links. When we name an operator, it is because there is a verifiable reason, not because we are paid.

Corrections

If you find something wrong or out of date, please tell us. We check it against the source, correct the guide if we were wrong, and update the date at the top of the page. When a fact changes, we update its register and correct the guides that use it.

Write to lankalens.com@gmail.com. Please include the page and the source that shows the correct information, if you have one.
